POTPFACTS #1 – #30

From the POTP Instagram page, the first 30 of our near weekly POTPFACTS, evolving in style. Originally called PyroFacts and interrupted sometimes by the likes of PYROPINIONS, which we’ll leave to be consumed by the sands of time as they probably won’t age well, we’ve included the original IG captions underneath for extra context.

A new segment for some of our regular Monday thoughts, featuring information we’ve recently come across recently and found semi-noteworthy.

***

Pyro Facts #2, nothing mind-blowing in these, just stuff we’ve come across recently by chance.

***

Pyro Facts #3, information we’ve come across recently and found interesting.

***

Pyro Facts, unlikely to feature any facts about actual pyro.

***

Olympic Cold War facts this Monday. After Spain beat Poland in 92, there hasn’t been another eastern European country in the final since.

***

You might get away with that in Celtic Park, Derry, but you most certainly won’t be getting away with that in Windsor Park.

***

PyroFacts #7 looking slightly fancier with a CSKA Sofia special. The original tie had been a 3-3 agg. draw by the way, the ultimate agg. result was 4-1 to CSKA.

***

Ultimately, it was the far less exciting downward projection of relegation that ended his time there and his career at the end of 2002-03.

***

Just let that sink in.

***

One a lot further form home than the other here, Tbilisi being 24 hours in a car away from Moscow!

***

Those who read our History of Irish Ultras & Hooligan Groups on PyroOnThePitch.com will know this already. If there were any other named groups around in LOI in the 70s that you know of, do get in touch!

***

PyroFacts #12. The current Stadion Rote Erde is seen in second pic with Westfalenstadion nearly overlapping. (Forgot these are meant to be POTPFacts now.)

***

Austrian Acid. Unfortunately their nickname doesn’t appear to be “The Gardeners”.

***

POTPFACTS #14 – Any other players done this? Next closest we can think of is Trevor Molloy, who in a period from 2000 to 2003 appeared for Pats, Bohs, Shels and Rovers but with Carlisle in the middle and not in consecutive seasons.

***

POTPFACTS #15: Wednesday and Thursdays of a Monday, only on POTP. Abergavenny Thursdays dissolved in 2013 btw, since replaced by Abergavenny Town FC.

***

POTPFACTS #16 on Berwick Rangers. The Berwick squad, at least currently, is also made up entirely of Scottish players, playing in the Scottish Lowland League this season.

***

POTPFACTS #17, the subject of which FC Dnipro dissolved in 2019 after several years of financial issues with SC Dnipro-1 taking its place.

***

POTPFACTS #18.

***

POTPFACTS #19 – Mentioned League of Ireland map article can be found on PyroOnThePitch.com via the “Football Special Report” section.

***

POTPFACTS #20: Some Olympic facts about an also-football Olympic stadium.

***

POTPFACTS #21 – Yeah sure, “spiders” did it…alien spiders!

***

POTPFACTS #22 – When we say “non-British”, obviously many of the British Army players of Kildare would have “pro-British”, but geographically speaking they were not based in Great Britain. Also does this give Kildare County a claim to FA Cup lineage.

***

POTPFACTS #23 – Extra: “In September 1944, the then Corporal Courtney participated in a 42 mile march that was later recognised as a world record for a speed march under peacetime conditions”, from Wikipedia. Ned passed away in 1997.

***

POTPFACTS #24. Bonus: Other clubs from communist countries came close, with European Cup finalists Partizan Belgrade (1969); UEFA Cup finalists Red Star Belgrade (1979) and Videoton (1984); and Cup Winners’ Cup finalists MTK Budapest (1964), Górnik Zabrze (1970), Dynamo Moscow (1972), Ferencváros (1975, against Dynamo Kyiv), Carl Zeiss Jena (1981, against Dynamo Tblisi), and 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig (1987).

***

POTPFACTS #25 on the 6-4 era. Edit: The last game was actually in Dalymount Park.

***

POTPFACTS #26. For comparison, only six French clubs will qualify for Europe this season with three going down, meaning 11 will have unchanged status going into 22-23.

***

POTPFACTS #27. Soon we will have a post on PyroOnThePitch.com with a compilation of POTPFacts #1#30. Tony unfortunately died in 2013 at the young age of 56.

***

POTPFACTS #28 on the short history of an obscure club who’s name caught our eye a while back.

***

POTPFACTS #29 🎼🎤🎵🎶🎸🎹

***

POTPFACTS #30 – The French-Armenian Connection.
